Bio

(b. 1988), Christy Marie is a published visual artist & writer born in Tampa, Florida. She has immersed herself in the medium of photography for over seven years. Passionate about creating change, she continuously uses her art as an outlet for necessary dialogue. Christy desires to visually contextualize the current culture in America and how the people are making strides to change the status quo. She has showcased work nationally in numerous art shows, exhibits, and forums.

Artist Statement

I capture the invisible. My work brings light to communities that often feel they are in darkness. Many observe the beautiful things in life, in stark contrast, I observe what is often denied, overlooked and swept under the rug. Showing the humanity of black and brown people in this world while preserving a bit of history one photo at a time. I am to bring integrity back into photojournalism. Telling the whole story and not what is convenient for a narrative.  While I do capture vibrant images of our essence, many of my images are in grayscale to help keep the focus on subject matter, the people.
